FYI

Potassium

Many of you are wondering what is going on with regards to the cost of potassium? As you know, potassium is a mineral that is mined and from what we have been told there are only 3 major mines that supply the bulk of the worlds’ potassium. There are countries that are using potassium as a fertilizer, causing a greater demand for it overseas which is causing a higher price for it here. So if you are using Potassium for your softener and don’t like paying a higher price for the replacement of it you actually have two options:

  1. Costco in Tustin (at The District – Barranca and Jamboree) has 40 lb bags in stock for $9.99 a bag.
  2. Or you can switch your softener over to salt. (about $5.00 a bag) Remember, if you use salt, you won’t want to use that water for watering your inside plants.
How’s your water pressure?

Have you noticed lately that your water pressure is maybe not as strong as it used to be? This could be the effect on your softener caused by greater amounts of chlorine in our water today which is both easily detected and easily fixed. First, go to your softener and turn the “bypass” switch so that water is NOT coming through your softener. Next, turn on any faucets in your home. Is the water pressure better? If so, you probably need your unit serviced. No problem! Just call us and we can determine how to get your softener back up to maximum efficiency!

Chlorine Concerns:

It is a well known fact that the Water Company adds chlorine to our water, why? Because it guarantees that the water coming to our home is treated and safe. However, be aware that as we are routinely testing water in Orange County, we are seeing a much greater amount of chlorine in many areas than we used to see in the past. Because of this, it can cause a bit of a hardship on your household systems. If you want to be sure you are protected, call us. We will be happy to test your water so you can feel safe.
